Acme United Corporation Strengthens Patent Position, Formalizes Trade Dress Protections of Titanium Bonded(TM) Scissors

FAIRFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2006--Acme United Corporation (AMEX:ACU) today was granted United States Patent No. 6,988,318 covering its proprietary TITANIUM BONDED(TM) scissors and other cutting tools. Entitled "Coating for Cutting Implements," the patent is the first to issue in a series of pending patent applications for Acme's related cutting technologies. This growing segment of Acme United's patent portfolio includes applications pending in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the European Patent Office. Yesterday, Acme filed three additional related U.S. patent applications. Acme United is exploring opportunities to license the technology to partners in non-competing industries.

Due to the overwhelming success and high consumer recognition of Acme's TITANIUM BONDED(TM) scissors, Acme United has taken steps to formally protect its distinctive grey and yellow handles. The Company is filing an application for registration of this trade dress with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
